The Emperor is the masculine opposite of The Empress.  He has power as she does, but is seen as an authority figure.  When The Emperor shows up in a reading, your ideas and wishes begin to manifest in the real world. 

This is the 4^th tarot card in the Major Arcana.  In numerology it indicates that an idea is coming to be or has a space to grow and develop with the proper foundation.  You have created a solid base for your plans and are now working to develop them. 

The Meaning of the Tarot Card

Many times, The Emperor is seen as an older man, someone in a position of authority who is able to guide and help you in your plans.  He can come forward during the period of time indicated by the tarot reading to offer help, money, aid or assistance of some kind. 

However, he is also representative of your own work.  When The Emperor pops up in a reading he usually tells us that you are working for your plans to take shape.  The focus is on a solid, well-constructed project.   

In relationships, he can indicate that you are considering a new affair or partner, usually a man with the qualities indicated by the card.  He may even be an Aries or Mars could figure strongly in his birth chart. 

On the negative side, The Emperor can indicate that you are bored or frustrated by dull, repetitive work. 

Description of the Card

The tarot card usually depicts The Emperor in a passive sitting position.  He is relaxed and in charge, able to survey his entire domain.  In his left hand he may hold a globe, representing the world.  In his right hand, he holds a scepter with an Egyptian Ankh on it to symbolize his virility.

The Emperor card will also have symbols for the astrology sign of Aries present.  This may be images of a Ram’s head or the astrological symbol for Mars present somewhere in the image.  He is the aggressor and also war-like at times, which will be symbolized by red mountains in the background, which can also represent a strong, solid foundation. 

Over all, The Emperor tarot card is a sign of stability in ones plans and an encouragement to continue with them.
