In learning how to read tarot you have to memorize and interpret the meanings of 78 different cards, 22 of which are Major Arcana, as is The Strength card.  When this Major Arcana card pops up in a reading you are being told tat you have the strength and fortitude to carry on through your current situation. 

 

It is the 8th card in the Major Arcana.  In numerology the number eight is always a beneficial influence.  It signifies power, especially that which comes from within.  It can also indicate a positive frame of mind about a situation or reading.

 

The Meaning of the Card

 

Those who read tarot can tell you that The Strength card literally means what it is called.  This is one card you don’t have to think about to hard to learn how it applies to your layout. 

 

You have inner strength and with that strength you’ll be able to overcome adversity and find that conclusion you’ve been looking for.  This is strength of the spirit.  Your fortitude, conscience and love will help you defeat negativity and brute force in the current situation.

 

It can also apply to challenging situations in your business, finances and the family.  Something from the past could also be coming back to challenge you.  However, The Strength card shows that you will triumph over these problems with your fortitude and persistence.

 

Description of the Card

 

No matter which deck you use, when you read tarot cards The Strength card usually carries the same symbolism.  A woman is often shown touching a dangerous lion.  In the Celtic Dragon deck, she’ll be shown with a Dragon, an equally fearsome creature.

 

The woman is often shown to be closing the mouth of the lion, showing that her inner strength is more powerful than his brute force. 

 

She’ll also have the infinity symbol over her head, showing her blessed spirituality.  Her clothing is all white and she’ll be wearing flowers, all signs of her purity and spiritual strength.

 

Some decks may show a man dressed for battle.  His inner strength is represented by his outer defense.  His courage and consistency in battle will help him win.
