Do I Take This Literally Or Metaphorically? How To Read Tarot Cards
When learning to read tarot cards, you'll find there is often a lot of confusion when it comes to interpretations. One could say that the tarot cards are never wrong; it’s just that they can be interpreted badly by the reader. Even with this thought in mind the tarot cards can be a foggy mystery for the reader. Taking the Cards Literally A lot of tarot cards have scary images. The Death Card for instance, is often adorned with a picture of death, usually a skeleton, riding on his dark horse through a gloomy background. Many beginners make the mistake of taking the cards literally when Death pops up. In reality, he just signals a transformation or a change to a new kind of life and the metaphorical death of the old life. When you are learning how to read tarot cards, be sure that you take your own initial reactions to the images on those cards with a grain of salt. This is even though, most tarot cards images are seeded with little clues to help readers remember or interpret their meanings. The clues for interpretation usually require some thought in interpretation. So, when you see the Death card, don’t immediately interpret the ‘death’ of someone the querent knows. Instead, look at the Death image as a change or transition. Death is riding on a horse, that horse is sometimes seen galloping through the card. The meaning here is that change is coming in your life or the querent’s life. Many times the effects of this change are already being felt by the querent, which is part of the cause for the tarot card reading. Taking the Cards Metaphorically However, when you are learning how to read tarot cards, you also shouldn’t spend too much time looking for the esoteric meanings of each image. You will usually hit on the correct meaning for each card in a few moments of good thought, especially when the meanings of all the cards in each tarot spread are strung together. They do after all, tell a good story. When you have cards in each reading that just don’t make sense and you are tempted to start making great intuitive leaps to help them make sense then you are probably looking too deeply. Look back at the other cards and see if there isn’t another possible meaning that you’ve cast aside too quickly. You’ll often find that some answers to tarot card questions may seem too strange but are right on target in the end.
